Wengen – La Val
Traditional, primitive village in the Val Badia
The village of Wengen (Ladin: La Val) is one of the most unspoilt villages in the whole Ladin region. Despite its popularity and increasing tourism, it is still a jewel of Ladino peasant culture. Located on the sunny side of a small side valley of the Val Badia it is a quiet little place where you can hike and enjoy your holiday amidst the beautiful nature. Wengen itself is the historic centre of the numerous hamlets and Viles (old Tyrolean farm dwellings) in the surrounding hillsides. Pederoa, Campló, Lunz, Runch, Ciablun, Miribun and Tolpei are the largest and best known Viles around Wengen. Most of these hamlets are already very old and consist of a maximum of 10 houses. A walk around Wengen is like a little trip back into the past. Definitely worth the trip!
