Tauferer Ahrntal Valley
Hiking and mountain climbing south of the Alps
The Tauferer Ahrntal Valley extends in a long right curve from Bruneck in the Puster Valley to the main Alpine ridge and the northernmost corner of Italy. Previously, the two valleys served as a vital trade link between northern Italy and southern Germany, Tyrol and Salzburg. Wine and salt were the main trade goods exchanged in this area. This erstwhile importance has since diminished. For hikers and mountain climbers the individual towns offer good accommodations for extended tours to the northern Dolomites.
Holidays in the Tauferer Ahrntal Valley
The Tauferer Ahrntal Valley is now a popular destination for hikers and climbers. Mountain pastures, huts and castles attract summer visitors. But mountain bikers as well will find enough possibilities for tours in the many small forest and mountain roads. In the winter skiers will find numerous well-maintained slopes in the Speikboden ski area.
