Place of Interest
San Vito di Cadore
Main holiday resort in the Cadore Valley
San Vito di Cadore is situated at the foot of the Antelao mountain and is the main tourist resort of the Belluno Dolomites next to Cortina d’Ampezzo. The village is mostly visited by Italians and offers the perfect alternative to bustling Cortina. Worth seeing is the local church, which contains an altar painting by Francesco Vecellio, Titian’s brother. The place is also a good starting point for climbing the mountains Antelao, Sorapis and Monte Pelmo.
Surroundings of San Vito di Cadore
A few kilometres southeast of San Vito di Caldore you will reach the small village of Cibiana di Caldore. The village decided in 1980 to make available its exterior walls for art, thereby paving the way for many great outdoor frescoes of various artists. Worth visiting is the Museo delle Dolomiti on the Monte Rite. Under the direction of the mountain climber Reinhold Messner, a large collection of artefacts and Alpine paintings was compiled here.
