Passo di Falzarego
Historically important high mountain pass
The Agordino Valley is connected by a high mountain pass with Cortina d’Ampezzo: the Passo di Falzarego. From the pass you’ll have a magnificent view over the Dolomites around. Also worth seeing is the imposing witch stone (Sasso di Stria) that towers over the pass. Like so many other peaks and villages of the Dolomites, the Passo di Falzarego was a hard-fought position between the Austrians and Italians in World War II. The open-air museum in the impressive Austrian outer fort "Forte Tre Sass" and numerous galleries, tunnels and trenches still remind us of that terrible time. Exhibitions and galleries can be visited relatively easily. Particularly impressive is the exhausting two-hour Kaiserjäger-Klettersteig (a mountain pass), which leads along the Austrian positions on a suspension bridge to the front lines and ends at the Austrian outer fort. A trip that is worthwhile in any case!
