Basilica di Monte Berico
Sanctuary above Vicenza
High above Vicenza, perched on a hill, you’ll find the beautiful domed Basilica di Monte Berico from the 17th century. A beautiful archway lined with chapels leads up to the basilica. The church itself was built in 1668 by C. Borella and contains many valuable paintings and gold splendours. A statue of Mary from the 15th century is still cause for many pilgrims to pay homage to the Mother of God. In the chapel to the right of the high altar is the work "The Lamentation of Christ" by Bartolomeo Montagna. In the refectory, you can admire the famous "Feast of St. Gregory the Great" by Veronese. From the outdoor terrace of the basilica you have a magnificent view over Vicenza and the surrounding hills.
