Lago di Ledro
Place of Interest
Lago di Ledro
Little brother of Lake Garda
The Lago di Ledro is like a mirror image of Lake Garda, but only a few sizes smaller. In the west mountain peaks rise while the terrain in the east is more extensive. For those who don’t like the tourist masses at Lake Garda, Lago di Ledro is a good alternative. The crystal-clear water of the lake is perfect for bathing, swimming and relaxing. At the western part of the lake you can see the remains of a nearly 3,000-year-old lake-dwelling village. An extensive museum and a replica of the lake dwelling houses can be found in Molina di Ledro. The three villages in the valley, Molina, Pieve and Bezzecca, consist mainly of apartments, holiday homes and pensions, which offer enough accommodation for its guests.
The inconspicuous village Bezzecca in the west of the Lago di Ledro was the scene of a major battle on 21 July 1866. The Italian national hero Giuseppe Garibaldi and his followers defeated the Austrian army here and were able to advance to the Trentino. The entire Valle di Ledro became a battlefield once again in the First World War. The numerous positions, trenches and tunnels are partially accessible today.
