Cathedral of Vicenza
Brick building with a dome of Palladio
The cathedral of Vicenza was built in the 15th century on the foundations of three earlier churches. Despite severe war damages from the Second World War, the Gothic façade was reconstructed again – the beautiful dome is unmistakably a work of Palladio himself. In the quite simple interior of the cathedral there is, in addition to numerous paintings, a beautiful triptych by Lorenzo Veneziano from the 14th century. Under the sacristy are the remains of a Roman road. Also worth a visit is the connected Diocesan Museum (Diocesan Museum), which you can visit with the Biglietto Unico.
On the south side of the Piazza Duomo is the Palazzo Porti. Below the palace is the underground criptoportico Romano – the remains of a Roman palace and an early Christian church.
