Fratta Polesine
Idyllic village with Venetian villas
About 15 kilometres west of Rovigo is the small, sleepy town of Fratta Polesine. Magnificent Venetian villas bear witness to the presence of Doge’s republic of Venice and the benefits of the idyllic village as a quiet country retreat for the former nobility. Right in the centre of the town you can see one of the highlights of Fratta Polesine – a villa designed by Palladio – the Villa Badoer. The massive entrance with Ionic columns and the staircase is very impressive and the interior of the villa was completely restored and includes some lovely paintings. In the near future the two wings of the villa will house the Archaeological Museum.
Also worth seeing is the beautiful park of the Villa Labia and the Villa Molin-Avezzù, which is privately owned and not open to the public. More luxurious villas are located along the main road and give the small inconspicuous village a truly unique atmosphere.
