Aci Trezza
Fishing village on the Riviera of the Cyclops
Aci Trezza has developed in recent years into a popular tourist destination on the Riviera of the Cyclops. The small fishing village is enticing for one sole reason: the Isole dei Cyclops. There are bizarre cyclopean rocks, which - according to legend - Polyphemus, the son of Poseidon, is said to have thrown at Odysseus after he had blinded him. There are regular boat connections to go and see the cyclopean rocks. The largest of the islands houses the Marine Biological Station of the University of Catania. Luchino Visconti filmed Giovanni Verga's novel "I Malavoglia" here in 1947.
