Tomba di Dante
Tomb of the great writer
The world-renowned poet Dante Aligheri spent his twilight years in Ravenna, which is where he finished his "Divine Comedy". After his death on 14 September 1321 and funeral service, Dante’s remains were protected by monks at the San Francesco Church thereby shooting down Florentine claims to the remains of her famous son. It has to be noted that Dante was sentenced to death by incineration in Florence in 1302. His urn was only buried in the neo-classical temple Tomba di Dante in 1865.
