Sights in Ravenna
Of Gothic art, expunction and mosaics
A total of eight Ravennese buildings were declared World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. Mosaics dating back to the times of Theoderic the Great, some of which were expunged by subsequent rulers, dominate the cityscape. Furthermore, there are monumental tombs and mausoleums to be found including the final resting places of regent Galla Placidia and legendary writer Dante Aligheri. Ravenna's clash of styles, Byzantine imprint and playful baroque buildings make for fun extended discovery trips through this fascinating, rich-in-history city.
