Piazza del Popolo
City square with Venetian flair
Piazza del Popolo used to be a wet area covered in rank growth and weeds until the Venetians conquered Ravenna in the late 15th century. These days it is the ideal starting point for city walks. Palazetto Veneziano was built during Venetian regency. It is a small palace with five arched openings and two pillars depicting the Ravennese patron saints (Apollinaris, the first Bishop of Ravenna, and Vitalis) on statues. The pinnacle-topped Palazzo Comunale and the elegant Palazzo dei Rasponi del Sale were constructed in later years.
