Portoni della Brà
Archway at the Piazza Brà
The Portoni della Brà, the two arches of the town gate, enclose the Piazza Brà to the south. Through the arches you can reach the Porta Nova, which connects the old town with its fortifications in the south. Originally the Portoni della Brà were not designed as a city gate but rather were intended as a passageway between the Castelvecchio and the Citadel. You can see the last remains of the walls of the former Citadel near the Piazza Citadella.
Both the archways and the former citadel were built by Gian Galeazzo Visconti in the 14th century.
