Cittadella
Medieval fortress north of Padua
The small town of Cittadella is located nearly 30 kilometres north of Padua. This medieval gem has an oval centre and is surrounded by an intact defensive wall with 32 towers and 4 gates. The fortress was built in the 12th Century as a reaction by Padua to the establishment of the nearby Castelfranco Veneto of Treviso. Those passing through should certainly make a short stop here and absorb the atmosphere of the medieval town on a little walk in the old centre within the city walls.
