Piazzale Antenore, Palazzo Zabarella
Immediately at the Palazzo del Bò begins the long Via Francesco. The Piazzale Antenore is situated at its beginning of the street. The Tomba di Antenore, a sarcophagus with a beautiful canopy, is situated in the middle of the Piazzale Antenore. It was erected here in 1233 and according to legend it includes the remains of Antenore, the mythical founder of the city of Padua, who founded the city here in 1184 BC after his flight from Troy.
Palazzo Zabarella
A few steps further along the Via Francesco you will arrive at the Palazzo Zabarella – one of the oldest palaces in Padua. It is based on the remains of a Roman building complex and was built in its present form, including the tower, in the Middle Ages. The palazzo was built by the Zabarella family, who lived there until the 19th century. Today the palace is used for exhibitions, during which it is open for visits. In summer there are also some concerts and theatre performances.
