Resorts and beaches in Friuli-Venezia Giulia
Holidays on the Italian Adriatic
The coast of Friuli is characterised by contrasts: while long sandy beaches stretch from the Tagliamento and the Isonzo between well-known resorts like Grado and Lignano, and karst cliffs dominate the Riviera Triestina. Nowhere else do the Alps extend so close to the sea as here. The beaches in Friuli are very popular, especially in Austria, and many resorts are thus in Austrian hands in the summer – it’s the shortest route to the sea from the Alpine Republic. Lagoons, sand beaches, cliffs, fine wines and a lot of culture lie in wait for the tourists here in the northernmost region of the Mediterranean.
