Picturesque mountain village above Taormina

The mountain village of Castelmola is picturesquely situated on a hill above Taormina. The small village is famous mainly because of its sweet almond wine (vino alla mandorla) and the stunning view of Mount Etna. You can reach the village on a 5-kilometre-long winding mountain road from Taormina by car or bus. Alternatively, you can also take a one-hour hike over the beautiful Madonna della Rocca to the Piazza Sant'Antonio in the centre of the village.

In Castelmola itself, it is worth going on a stroll through the picturesque medieval town centre to the cathedral and the castle. At each corner you will have a fantastically beautiful view of the sea and Mount Etna. Castelmola is a gem that is a must on any trip to the area around Taormina.
