Piazza Archimede
Central square with beautiful art nouveau fountain
The Piazza Archimede, which is dedicated to the famous Greek mathematician Archimedes, can be reached from the Temple of Apollo on the Corso Matteotti. Around the square there are many beautiful buildings dating from the 14th and 15th Century as well as some cafes. The real eye-catcher in the square is the beautiful art nouveau fountain in the centre, the Fontana di Artemide by Giulio Moschetti. The fountain motif shows the nymph Arethusa, who is transformed into a spring by the goddess Artemis. Said spring, the Arethusa spring, can be found only a few metres further south near the cathedral square.
