En route in the ancient new town of Syracuse
The former new town of Syracuse, Neapolis, is located west of the old town and its centre is now included in the Archaeological Park. Some of the highlights of the excavations include the Altar of Hieron II, the Greek Theatre, the Ear of Dionysius in the Latomia del Paradiso, the Roman amphitheatre and the Necropolis Grotticelli with the grave of Archimedes.
The amphitheatre, the Altar of Hieron II and also the grave of Archimedes can be visited free of charge or from the outside. Tickets for entering the park can be bought on the other side of the street in the small souvenir village.
