Torre di Federico II
Massive tower in the town park of Enna
In the southwest of the town, in a green area, is the Torre di Federico II. The octagonal tower with its partially preserved enclosure was once part of the town’s defences and in its appearance resembles the Castel del Monte in Apulia. The tower is an imposing 26 metres high, has a diameter of 17 metres and its walls are 3.5 metres thick. The two main floors with their stately rooms can be reached via a spiral staircase set into the wall. Previously, the tower was connected to the Castello di Lombardia by an underground passage.
