Battistero Neoniano
Orthodox baptistery
The baptistery of the Greek Orthodox Church originated during the ministry of Archbishop Neon in mid 5th century. He had the baptistery vested with stucco, marble and extensive mosaics, which now are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. As opposed to the similarly designed Battistero degli Ariani, the mosaics were set against a cobalt blue background. The cupola depicts the twelve apostles grouped around the Baptism of Christ in the Jordan.
