Battistero degli Ariani
Octagonal baptistery with well-preserved mosaics
The octagonal Battistero degli Arianti is located opposite of the Arian church Santo Spirito. It was built in the early 6th century and converted into an oratory dedicated to the Mother of God after the Gothic War. The inside of the baptistery is almost empty except for a baptismal front. However, the UNESCO World Heritage Site remained intact and in great condition. They are fairly similar to the mosaics inside the Battistero Neoniano, but show less colour variation while being composed stricter. These mosaics feature the very first depictions of the apostles with halos.
