Certosa & Jewish cemetery
Former Carthusian monastery turned city cemetery
The 15th century Certosa originally was a Carthusian monastery with a monumental pillared entrance. Today the monastery grounds serve as city cemetery. The well-preserved Chiesa di San Cristofero is adorned with 16th century panel paintings. The Jewish cemetery with a commemorative plaque about the mass murders of Ferrara’s Jewish population in the Second World War is in immediate vicinity.
