Romeo’s house
Family seat of the Montecchi
In contrast to Juliet’s house, Romeo’s house is just a name for the tourists. Its real name is Casa di Cagnolo Nogarola detto Romeo. The house itself is privately owned and lived in, and is unfortunately not open for visitors. However, the beautiful Gothic façade from the 14th century fits well with the famous love story of William Shakespeare, and so countless tourists can be found in front of the house every day, admiring Romeo’s house and taking pictures.
It has been proven, however, that the powerful noble family Montecchi formerly resided in this neighbourhood of Verona, and so this inconspicuous place has managed to preserve a little of its fascination concerning the famous love story of Romeo and Juliet.
