Palazzo Maffei
Eye-catching palace at the Piazza delle Erbe
The Palazzo Maffei is located to the northwest of the Piazza delle Erbe. The baroque palace was built in 1668 by Rolando Maffei. As was usual for the time, special emphasis was placed on the effect of the façade – many ornaments and sculptures decorate the exterior of the building. From the balustrade the Greek gods Zeus, Aphrodite, Apollo, Athena, Hermes and Hercules look down on the market life of the square.
On the ground floor of the Palazzo Maffei there is a restaurant facing the market. But you can still enter the courtyard and take a look at the imposing columns inside.
