Directly above the Roman theatre you can find the Castel San Pietro – splendid barracks from the Austrian period. You can reach the Castel by taking the stairs right next to the Teatro Romano. The fortress high above the city has been undergoing renovation works for several years to turn it into a museum and open it to visitors. Nevertheless, it is worthwhile visiting the Castel. In addition to the sight of the impressive building you will have a magnificent view over Verona from one of the terraces of the fortress. Another noteworthy feature of the fortifications are the five-square blocks, which were used by the Austrians to increase the stability of the fortress.
