San Giacomo dell'Orio
Church
San Giacomo dell’Orio
In the centre of San Croce
The mighty Campanile and the transept were added as an extension to a previous structure in 1225. The present appearance of the church of San Giacomo dell’Orio is a result of further alterations in the 15th century. Inside, you can immediately see the interesting wooden ceiling formed like a ship’s hull. The “Sacra Conversazione” by Lorenzo Lotto in the choir is of art historical importance, as are two works by Palma the Younger in the sacristy and a beautiful ceiling painting by Paolo Veronese. The sepals form of the pulpit, and a pillar of green marble is also interesting. The latter stems from an unknown building from the 6th century.
