Villa Barchessa Valmarana
Remains of a huge manor house
The Villa Barchessa Valmarana, the former mansion of the Valmarana family, is situated in Mira, the main city on the Riviera del Brenta. Of the former mansion, only the two side wings remain. The main building was demolished in 1908 when the Valmarana family tried to avoid luxury tax. But visitors can still see one of the two buildings today. It contains many original furnishings and frescoes by a pupil of Tiepolo, Michelangelo “Il Chiozzotto” Schiavoni. These valuable paintings were only discovered in 1962. In the central hall, Greek gods in the vault proclaim the glory of the Valmarana family.
