Short city walk through Treviso
Within the city walls of Treviso itself visitors can admire a beautiful historic old town. Depending on your condition and mood, you should take either half or a whole day to visit the city and to explore all the interesting places.
- The city walk starts in the west of the old town and first leads to the church of San Nicolò where you can admire the frescoes of Tommaso da Modena.
- Walking down the Via Angelo Garbrizza you will reach the Piazza Duomo where the monumental cathedral of Treviso is located.
- Along the Via Calmaggiore with its beautiful buildings you can now walk up to Treviso’s main square – the Piazza dei Signori with its magnificent palaces.
- Directly behind the Palazzo Trecento is the Piazza San Vito with two beautiful chapels. From here you can walk just a few more steps to reach the small river island in the Cagnan canal with its famous fish market.
- From the fish market you can walk along the Via San Parisio to the church of San Francesco, which houses the tomb of Dante’s son Pietro.
- Take a short walk to the Porta San Tommaso from here, where you can enjoy a magnificent panorama of the Alps.
- The route back leads over the Via Filippini to the Via Roggia – probably one of the most beautiful streets of Treviso with many picturesque houses and charming squares.
- Culture enthusiasts should now make a quick detour to the Luigi Bailo museum where paintings by famous Venetian artist can be admired. The return trip leads finally through the Viale Cesare Battisti to the starting point.
Many cafes and bars at the Piazza dei Signori and in the entire city centre invite you to linger.
