Picturesque mountain town and setting of Coppola's The Godfather
The picturesque mountain village northwest of Taormina has two attractions. In the catacombs of the Capuchin monastery, the mummies of the former local dignitaries are exhibited in wall recesses. In addition, the site served as a setting for Francis Ford Coppola's mafia drama The Godfather. Newspaper clippings and photos in the Bar Vitelli and a memorial to Coppola recall the shooting at the former film location. The pretty townscape also makes a stroll through the village worthwhile.
