Cathedral of Enna
The central church of the provincial capital
The Cathedral of Enna was built in its origins in 1307 and was rebuilt and renewed after a fire in the 17th Century. Things worth seeing inside the three-nave cathedral include the beautiful wood ceilings and the richly stuccoed Coronation of the Virgin by Pietro Rosso in the main apse. The sculptural decoration of the column capitals was partly the work of Gian Domenico Gagini. The choir stalls in the chancel and the paintings date from the 16th Century. The Museo Alessi next to the cathedral houses the cathedral treasure, a coin collection and medieval art.
