Santa Croce in Gerusalemme
Late Baroque pilgrimage church in Rome
The church of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme is, along with St. John Lateran, St. Peter's Basilica, San Paolo fuori le Mura, Santa Maria Maggiore, St. Sebastian and San Lorenzo fuori le Mura, one of the seven pilgrim churches of Rome. The church was built by the Emperor Constantine to house the relics, which his mother, St. Helena, brought back from the Holy Land. Its current, late-baroque shape was designed by the 18th Century Domenico Gregorini.
