San Gregorio Magno
Church of Pope Gregory the Great
San Gregorio Magno was built in 575 by later Pope Gregory the Great. Gregory converted his parents’ house into a convent for this purpose. In the 17th Century, the church was completely redecorated and then came to appear as it does now thanks to Giovanni Battista Soria. The Baroque style was added in the 18th Century by Francesco Ferrari. Worth seeing inside are the ceiling painting "The Glory of St. Gregory and Romuald" by Placido Costanzi and the frescoes in the chapel of St. Andrew by Domenichinio and Guido Reni. The latter also painted the angel fresco in the Chapel of St. Silvia.
