Largo di Torre Argentina
Temple area from the Republican period of Rome
The Largo di Torre Argentina is a Roman temple area in the heart of a busy square. The four temples were discovered during construction works in 1926 and are one of the few temples complexes of the Republican (pre-imperial) days of Rome. The 15 pillars at the bus stops belong to the rectangular temple complex A, which was converted into a church in the Middle Ages. In the round temple B, with its 6 preserved columns, the statue of the seated goddess Juno was found. The smallest, and oldest temple, temple C dates from the 4th Century B.C. Temple D runs partially under the Via Florida. It remains unknown for which deities these temples were erected.
