Lanuvio
Idyllic small town on Lake Nemi
The small town Lanuvio is idyllically located midst vineyards on Lake Nemi. Tightly packed houses, narrow streets and a city wall from the 13th Century still dominate the medieval town. Even the Roman nobility preferred the place for gorgeous weekend villas around the lake. It is worth seeing the fountain from the 17th Century on the Piazza Santa Maria Maggiore, whose basin consists of a Roman sarcophagus. In addition, the remains of the Roman Acropolis and the Temple of Juno Sospita can be visited. The larger than life statue of the gods Queen Juno can be admired today in the Vatican.
