City tour through Rome
Tour around the Vatican
Spending a few days in Rome is quite advantageous. Firstly, you have more time to visit the many attractions of the city and secondly there is more than enough time to visit at least one of the museums. Apart from that you get a chance enjoy the Eternal City and its many bars, restaurants and cafes even at night - a truly unique experience that you should not miss. From historic buildings and art to idyllic places, everything is possible during a stay in Rome.
Day 1 in the morning:
- The day starts with a visit of the Vatican Museums. It is best to be there shortly before the official opening time to get a better spot in the queue. Now you can take time the entire morning for a tour through the unique collection. Collections of sculptures, the art gallery, Stanze di Rafael, Borgia apartments and the Sistine Chapel are among the highlights of the museum. At lunch time it makes sense to take a short snack in the cafeteria of the museum, because it is cheaper than most of the cafes and restaurants in the surrounding area.
Day 2 in the afternoon:
- Along the Vatican walls, you will now reach St. Peter’s Basilica. After a tour through the cathedral, you should also plan a visit to the dome, from which you have a magnificent view over Rome.
- After a short stay at St. Peter's Square you leave the square on the west side to Castel Sant'Angelo.
- If there is enough time, you should definitely visit the Castel Sant'Angelo. Here you also can enjoy a beautiful view of the city, the Ponte Sant'Angelo and the Tiber. You can purchase a Roma Pass at the tourist office next to the castle which not only allows free entry to the castle, but also into the Colosseum on the following day and free use of public transport.
In the evening a short walk along the Tiber to Trastevere is recommended, where you can eat well in the many restaurants.
