Abbazia di Praglia
Benedictine monastery near Abano Terme
About 6 kilometres west of Abano Terme is the Benedictine monastery Abbazzia di Praglia from the 11th century. Over a magnificent stretch of plane trees you will reach the monastery, which is one of the largest in Italy. The monks of the monastery are mainly specialised in the restoration of old magazines and books. The results of their work as well as other valuable works can be found in the old library of the monastery.
Over a free-standing staircase you will reach the Renaissance church, which is painted with many beautiful frescoes in the interior. It is advisable to do a guided tour through the four beautiful cloisters, the refectory with its magnificent choir stalls and the chapter house. Before returning to Abano Terme or to another spa resort, you should take another look at the abbey's own store. All of the food offered here is produced by the monks themselves and is worth purchasing.
