La Chiesetta di San Pietro
Little Church of St Peter
According to legend, La Chiesetta di San Pietro, the Little Church of St Peter, was built on the exact same place were Saint Marinus once formed his first sacellum, a sacred place with an altar. The little church located directly next to the basilica was built in the 15th century and lastly renovated in 1940. A valuable marble altar, an endowment by the Roman composer Antonio Tedeschi from 1689, can be found inside. The remains of Saint Marinus were stored in the crypt until 1713. Legend has it that the two cavities carved into the rock once served as last resting-places for Saint Marinus and Saint Leo.
