Castel Sismondo
Ancestral seat of the Malatesta family
Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, the most famous and martial Malatesta offspring, had the Castel Sismondo built in Rimini from 1437 to 1452. Today, only the inner castle remains of the original construction. The Castel was originally surrounded by moats and featured several defence towers and walls that could withstand all cannonry known at the time. The part of the castle conserved to this day housed the manorial, ostentatiously adorned Malatesta residence. Sigismondo died here in 1467 and was interred in Tempio Malatestiano.
The castle is used today for various exhibitions and events.
