Porta Montanara was constructed on the radial road to Arezza in the 1st century BC. It originally consisted of a transverse arch with an atrium for the guards. In the course of its restorations, the sandstone gate was moved out of the city by a few metres. A mark on the ground indicates the original position of the ancient city gate.
