Ponte di Tiberio
Roman bridge in Rimini
Ponte di Tiberio (or Ponte d’Augusto) is a well-preserved Roman stone bridge stretching across the old part of the Marecchia in Rimini. It was started by Emperor Augustus and completed by Emperor Tiberius around 20 AD. The stony arch bridge is 62 metres long, 8.6 metres wide and rests on massive piers with five round arches. It is revetted with beautiful white marble on the outside. The piers are ornamented with image apertures.
The bridge is still open for traffic today and connects Corso d’Augusto in the historic centre of Rimini with the fishing district San Giuliano.
