Medieval Malatesta rampart
Montefiore Conca’s centrepiece is its fortress, built by the Malatesta as a powerful, military fortification in order to protect against outside perpetrators. The family also used the fortress as a holiday residency, in which numerous popes and emperors were received. Montefiore Conca is a charming medieval village that to this day shine in Malatesta era splendour, yet proved to be a lot older. Archaeological discoveries date back to the Iron Age and Roman Age. In later eras Montefiore Conca in possession of, inter alia, the Borgia, the Republic of Venice and the Prince of Macedonia.

Today, Montefiore Conca is officially recognised as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy coming up with several highlights for its visitors – not just culinary highlights, but accommodation-wise as well. Surrounded by the uniquely beautiful scenery and the fascinating fortress, one walks on paths full of history through the impressive churches of San Paolo, Madonna di Bonora and Ospedale della Misericorida. It’s worth discovering the surroundings on foot, by bike or on horse.
