Imposing Fountain of Neptune

"Il Gigante", as he’s called affectionately by the public, is enthroned right next to Piazza Maggiore in the traffic-free area of Bologna’s city centre. The Fountain of Neptune on Piazza del Nettuno is one of the city’s most iconic sights. An imposing 3.35 m high bronze statue by Giovanni da Bologna depicts mighty Neptune with his trident raised into the sky. Putti and nymphs gather at his feet. Neptune’s trident graces many things, most prominently the company logo of automobile manufacturer Maserati.
