Riviera del Brenta
On the road to Padua from Venice
When travelling from Venice to Padua, you should take the time to go along the beautiful Riviera del Brenta. The channel was built back in the 16th century and directed into the lagoon of Venice. The idyllic green surroundings of the canal enticed many Venetian noblemen to build their villas along the canal – surrounded by the green countryside of the mainland and yet only a stone’s throw from Venice. Thus it was that magnificent mansions and country houses were built, whose remains can still be admired today. Many of the villas are still inhabited, but you can visit six of them.
